The Florida Sheriffs Research Institute
In 2019, the Florida Sheriffs Association established the Florida Sheriffs Research Institute to conduct comprehensive research on a variety of topics that affect public safety and our communities. The Institute is dedicated to serving Florida’s sheriffs through data collection, analysis and rigorous research without the influence of outside special interests. The Institute conducts comprehensive analysis on a broad range of criminal justice issues and legislation that will impact the sheriff’s budgets, personnel, legislative issues, and public safety with the goal of providing needed information to make data-driven, and informed decisions.
The work of the Institute is guided by a committee of sheriffs appointed by the current President of the Florida Sheriffs Association. Committee members are not directly involved in researching issues, but review and approve proposals before any research is conducted and then published.
