who we are
To honor the heroes of sheriffs’ offices who gave their lives in the line of duty, the Florida Sheriffs Association created the FSA Law Enforcement Memorial in 2002.
The memorial was the vision of the late Buddy Phillips, who as FSA executive director wanted a permanent memorial wall with the names of officers engraved on it, much like the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. He also wanted to include a sculpture representing the impact their sacrifice has on the colleagues and loved ones of those who are lost.
The sobering bronze figures are a perfect complement to the powerful curved marble wall engraved with the names of the fallen officers. Combined with the majestic oaks and serene landscaping, visiting the memorial is a moving experience.
The names of those who gave their lives the prior year are added to the wall during the annual memorial service. The wall and monument are located in front of the FSA headquarters, 2617 Mahan Drive, in Tallahassee.
