Florida Sheriffs Association Names Florida Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls as Honorary Sheriff

September 13, 2022

The Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA), one of the largest and most successful state law enforcement associations in the nation, is pleased to announce it has named Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls as Honorary Sheriff. Speaker Sprowls is a continued champion for public safety and demonstrates a servant’s heart. He was raised in a law enforcement home and has a deep-rooted respect and admiration for those in public service.

“It is an honor to recognize Speaker Chris Sprowls on behalf of the Florida Sheriffs Association,” said FSA President, Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis. “Speaker Sprowls is a true leader who has dedicated his career to maintaining Florida as a safe and exceptional state. He recognizes the work of others, and his actions demonstrate that he is a partner to Florida’s law enforcement community.”

Speaker Sprowls was presented the honorary title based on his efforts and dedication to defending and recognizing law enforcement. During the 2022 Legislative Session, he supported Florida’s law enforcement community through smart legislation and expressed genuine gratitude for the profession. He also started a “Law Enforcement Officer of the Day,” program, which honored one Florida officer each day during session. Each honoree was invited to the House Floor for an up-close look at the legislative process and received recognition from the highest levels of Florida government.

“Speaker Sprowls is most deserving of the title of Honorary Sheriff, not only because of his legislative work but because of the passion and selflessness with which he executes it,” said Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum, the 2021-22 FSA President. “His commitment to be of service to Florida has truly made a difference for communities and visitors alike. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Speaker Sprowls.”
