Jacksonville Officer Honored as the  Florida Sheriffs Association 2025 Corrections Officer of the Year

The Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) is deeply honored to posthumously name Officer Brad McNew of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as the 2025 Corrections Officer of the Year. This prestigious award, sponsored by Saadian Technologies, recognizes an officer who has demonstrated unparalleled courage, commitment, and sacrifice in the line of duty.

On October 12, 2024, Officer McNew paid the ultimate price for his unwavering dedication to protecting others. While off duty and out of uniform, Officer McNew witnessed a violent assault in a truck stop parking lot where a suspect was battering a woman. Without hesitation, he intervened, embodying the selfless spirit of service that defined his life. Tragically, the suspect fatally shot Officer McNew and fled the scene.

John 15:13 states, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Officer McNew lived out this scripture in the truest sense, giving his life not for a friend or loved one, but for a complete stranger. His heroic actions were not mandated by duty, nor were they bound by the confines of his uniform. Officer McNew acted because protecting others was intrinsic to his character and his calling as a public servant.

“Officer McNew’s courage and sacrifice represents the very best of what it means to serve others,” said FSA President and Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell. “His selflessness and unwavering commitment to our community will never be forgotten. Officer McNew laid down his life to save another, and we are forever grateful for his heroic actions and his legacy of service.”

“Officer McNew’s actions exemplify the dedication, bravery, and selflessness that define the very best of those who serve in corrections. His willingness to help others, even off duty, reflects his unwavering commitment to protecting and uplifting his community. We are honored to join with the Florida Sheriffs Association in recognizing his sacrifice and will remember his legacy as a true hero who put others before himself. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, colleagues, and loved ones during this difficult time,” said Saadian Technologies CEO and Founder, Cliodhna McGuirk.

The Corrections Officer of the Year Award was presented during the FSA Winter Conference, where Officer McNew’s family was met with a standing ovation from attendees who recognized his sacrifice and celebrated his legacy.

The Florida Sheriffs Association extends its deepest condolences to Officer McNew’s family, colleagues and the Jacksonville community. His ultimate act of service will serve as an enduring example of courage, honor and love for generations to come.
