August 08, 2013

For Immediate Release:

New Port Richey, FL (June 11, 2013) – Each year, the Florida Sheriffs Association recognizes state legislators who have made significant contributions to criminal justice and public safety through their leadership. During the 2013 legislative session, there were a number of key legislators who the Sheriffs counted on to ensure a successful session. Pasco County Sheriff and St. Johns County David Shoar presented Senator Wilton Simpson with the Legislative Champion Award at a ceremony held in New Port Richey.

“Senator Simpson has been a leader in Pasco for many years and during his first year in Tallahassee, he has truly proven his leadership ability to citizens statewide,” said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.  “I appreciate the support he has shown for all the men and women throughout our state that work in law enforcement.”

Senator Simpson was instrumental in ensuring carrying forward responsible modifications to the Florida Retirement System this session.   Senator Simpson is a republican representing District 18, which includes parts of Pasco, Hernando and Sumter.

“I am so grateful to receive this recognition from the Florida Sheriff's Association – a group of men and women I truly admire and respect,” said Florida Senator Wilton Simpson. “Florida's law enforcement professionals are hardworking people who sacrifice a great deal to protect us and it is an honor to accept this award.”

The Florida Sheriffs Association has identified Florida legislators who gave critical support to Florida’s Sheriffs for bills we supported, as well as who worked through bills of concern and helped us to defeat those bills that were just were not good for Florida.

“The Florida Sheriffs Association is honored to recognize Senator Simpson for his tireless work to support Florida’s Sheriffs and all law enforcement across the state,” said Highlands County Sheriff and FSA President Susan Benton. “FSA applauds our partners in the Capitol for their continued support in protecting all Floridians.”

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Sheriff’s Association will continue to work with our state representatives and senators on legislation geared toward keeping the state’s citizens and visitors safe.
