35: State Attorney on Repeat Violent and Serious Offenders
In this episode, FSA speaks with State Attorney Jack Campbell about Florida’s Prisoner Release Reoffender Law. Passed unanimously by the Florida Legislature in 1997, the law ensures violent repeat offenders serve 100 percent of their maximum prison sentence if they commit another forcible felony within three years upon their release from prison. We discuss how this law works to reduce violent crime and we also review the Florida Sheriffs Research Institute recently released report entitled, The Prisoner Release Reoffender: Sentencing Repeat Offenders of Violent and Serious Crime in Florida. The full report can be accessed here.
