Matt Dunagan was selected by the Florida sheriffs to be the Deputy Executive Director of Operations on September 1, 2014. He is responsible for leading the operational efforts for the Florida Sheriffs Association including coordinating training programs, task force operations, emergency management and public safety programs across the state. In addition to these responsibilities, he assists FSA with legislative outreach initiatives.

Prior to joining the Florida Sheriffs Association, Dunagan was Chief Policy Analyst in the Prescription Drug and Special Projects Section in the Florida Office of the Attorney General. He has also served in the Executive Office of the Governor as the Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement for the Office of Drug Control. He served as an operations and management consultant to the Florida Department of Corrections for three years, which involved strengthening community supervision by securing a $3.4 million grant to hire probation officers in a number of Florida counties. He also researched and authored white papers for use by the DOC and legislators and was the lead researcher and strategy writer for the 2008-2012 Attorney General’s highly successful Gang Reduction Strategy.

Dunagan has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration and public policy from Florida State University, where he was a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration and the Golden Key National Honor Society. He is a graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute’s Chief Executive Seminar, Class 50.

FSA Executive Director Steve Casey described Dunagan as “a significant asset for the FSA team.”
