County Commissioners meet at FAC Legislative Conference
The Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Legislative Conference was held Dec. 2-4 at the Hyatt Regency Riverside in Jacksonville. It was attended by county commissioners and staff, as well as FSA staff, in person and via teleconferencing. Topics covered included:
- New county commissioner orientation.
- County chairperson academy training.
- Contitutional officers overiview, roles and responsibilities.
- COVID-19 challenges and sharing best practices.
- County administrator workshop.
- Water and sustainability.
- FAC board buisness.
There were no outside networking opportunities or events at the conference due to COVID-19 prevention and safety issues. COVID safety and preventative measures included masks, hand sanitizer availability throughout conference, pre-packaged meals and social distance spacing. FAC staff introduced FSA staff to a number of county representatives and we discussed the FSA Cooperative Purchasing Program, FAC partnerships and benefits from the CPP, and benefits to counties such as reductions in administrative workloads (bids and contract management), great pricing, many products and the flexibility to meet county purchasing needs.
The CPP offers statewide purchasing contracts on a variety of vehicles, equipment and services that are available to all eligible agencies. Since its inception in 1993, approximately 55,000 vehicles have been purchased through these programs, resulting in tremendous savings for participating agencies statewide.
