Florida Sheriffs Association Honors Governor Rick Scott with Legislative Champion Award

April 08, 2013

For Immediate Release:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 30, 2013) – The Office of Governor Rick Scott today announces the governor was honored to receive the Florida Sheriffs Association Legislative Champion Award. This is the first time a governor has received this award, which is given to the person who has championed public safety and law enforcement issues at the Capitol. Florida’s Sheriffs recognized Governor Scott as their partner in fighting crime and making common sense policy decisions that protect Floridians and its millions of annual visitors. FSA Executive Director Steve Casey, President Sheriff Susan Benton and Legislative Chair Sheriff John Rutherford presented Governor Scott with the award this week during their midwinter conference in Destin, Florida. Supporting the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, cracking down on PIP fraud, and ensuring felons serve at least 85 percent of their sentences were a few of the highlights of the governor’s work during session.

“The Florida Sheriffs Association is honored to recognize Governor Rick Scott for his common-sense approach to public safety and for his efforts to get to work with Florida’s Sheriff to reduce crime, maintain a 41-year low crime rate, and to protect the citizens of Florida,” said FSA President and Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton. “The staff of FSA applauds this governor for his open door and his support of our most critical issues.”
