The media loves a great debate even more because it sells newspapers, magazines, website advertisements and television commercials, and increases readership, subscriptions and revenues.
The Florida Sheriffs Institute Commanders Academy graduated its second class July 11, 2014. Class 2, comprised of 29 commanders representing 26 sheriffs’ Offices, took the legacy established by the charter class to an even higher level. With hurricane season already in progress, storm preparation is a major priority for many. While most people have an idea what to gather in preparation for the intense weather (extra food and water, sandbags, flashlights, etc.), few know what steps to take in preparation for the increase in crime that follows a natural disaster. In times of devastation, looting seems to be one of the most common issues faced globally. This type of crime can be prevented by taking simple precautionary steps, such as locking away items of value and keeping your home and car doors locked at all times.
Many of our Florida Sheriffs’ Offices have unsolved homicides in an open status pending additional information or evidence. While these cases merit further investigation, limited resources are usually focused on more recently committed major crimes.
Did you know that Florida has more than 1,700 Special Districts? Special Districts provide limited governmental services for a very specific need, each of them focused on a defined geographic area, mostly local. Fire control, library, mosquito, water control, community development, and hospital districts are just a few examples of the various types of special districts authorized under Florida law. Each district provides unique services, but all with the same need to be accountable and accessible to the citizens they serve.
The FSA Cooperative Purchasing Program (CPP) collaborated with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) and Florida Association of Government Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA) to provide fleet maintenance training to fleet staff from the LCSO, Leon County, and the City of Tallahassee.
