The Florida Sheriffs Association invests in the state of Florida each year by encouraging and rewarding bright, hard-working students whose parents work in a Florida sheriff’s office. Thanks to the partnership formed by the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) and the Motorola Solutions Foundation, ten high-achieving students will receive a college scholarship. Annually, the Motorola Solutions Foundation supports the efforts of the FSA by generously donating $20,000 to support their STEM scholarship for students pursuing a career in any STEM-related field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math). The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as FSA, which support and advance public safety programs and technology & engineering education initiatives.

We are devastated by the news that Deputy William Gentry has died after being shot last night while on duty serving his community. Deputy Gentry has honorably served the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office for more than 9 years, currently serving as a field training officer whose contributions will forever have an impact on the agency.

The Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) is pleased to announce that State Farm has generously granted $50,000 to the Teen Driver Challenge, an educational course that provides teen driver education. This program has been a vital contribution in keeping Florida’s teen drivers, and everyone on the roadway, safe. State Farm has granted a total of $810,000 to the program since 2011.

A large part of the mission of the Florida Sheriffs Association is to host annual events that provide a venue for training, sharing and learning. Each event is specifically designed to gather a targeted audience of specific law enforcement personnel and those who directly support their work.

This year, FSA has awarded college scholarships to 25 high-achieving students. Fifteen students were awarded the FSA STEM Scholarship for individuals that are pursuing a career in any STEM-related field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math), and 10 were awarded the FSA Scholarship for those that are studying toward a career in law enforcement, corrections, or another criminal justice field.
