St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar says just a small part of law enforcement involves “locking people up” and discusses how his deputies use community relations and community policing to better serve their citizens.

Sheriff Shoar also discusses the problems of addiction and the approaches his agency takes to help prevent opioid abuse, such as deploying deputies to residences they’re familiar with and using Narcan to help save lives.
